Pačlavice – Castle History, Nature and Hotels

In Pačlavice, a special historical landmark leads to the castle: in the 19th century, the so-called Špitálka was established there, a home for elderly and sick people. Later, a children's shelter and a girls' school were added.

Culture

Pačlavice is also connected with the biography of Ota Kříž (1845–1874). He was born here, was a polar explorer and naval officer, took part in an Austrian North Pole expedition and wrote a diary. Archaeological finds from the area around Pačlavice provide evidence of settlement in all prehistoric periods of development. The surviving traces of the town therefore extend from prehistory to modern times.

The Church of Saint Martin in Pačlavice dates from 1655. Next to the church stands a Baroque chapel from the late 18th century; a sculptural group of Saints Cyril and Methodius is also located there. Pačlavice is also home to a statue of the Virgin Mary from the late 18th century. Another statue in the town is dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk. In the wider regional surroundings of Pačlavice, Socha sv. Jana Nepomuckého is a monument.

The wider regional surroundings are also home to historic buildings of various kinds. Hrad Buchlov is a castle, Hrádek is a ruin and Kuchlov is also a ruin. Another biographical note concerns Antonín Hanák: he became the first head of the Institute of Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine in Bratislava.

Landscape
