Culture

The Church of Saint Wenceslas was founded approximately in the first quarter of the 13th century. It was originally a single-nave Romanesque building with an apse. Among the surviving remains of the Romanesque church building of Saint Wenceslas, the Romanesque portal is the most significant and valuable surviving element. It dates from the first half of the 13th century, making it a particularly old testament to the history of the building.

The first written mention of the existence of the town of Hulín dates from 1224; at that time, the Bohemian King Přemysl Otakar I came there. Under Dětřich, Bruno’s representative, Hulín’s administrative centre was extensively rebuilt around the 1290s. The stronghold was converted into a castle, and the entire complex was fortified with ramparts and a moat.
