Zástřizly: Nature, Trails and History in the Chřiby Region

Zástřizly is part of the Chřiby protected landscape area, which also includes the cadastral territory of Zástřizly and protects, among other things, species-rich beech forests. The Chřiby landscape is highly varied; its highest point is the 587-metre-high Brdo.

History and Culture

In the cadastral territory of Zástřizly, there are traces of the construction of an unfinished motorway planned during the Second World War, including three almost completed motorway bridges. The motorway associated with Zástřizly was originally intended to connect Brno and Zlín.

The older history of the village includes the former fortress of Zástřizly, first mentioned in 1417. The fortress lost its function and probably fell into disrepair in the 17th or 18th century. During construction work on the school in 1899, substantial stone foundations and extensive underground spaces were discovered, which were probably the remains of the Zástřizly fortress.

Trails to Stará Cihelka

A green-marked hiking trail from Zástřizly leads to Stará Cihelka. A regional excursion to Stará Cihelka also starts in Zástřizly. A circular hiking trail from Zástřizly runs through Studený žleb towards Vlčák and back to Zástřizly. Through Studený žleb, the hike follows a green trail marker to the Nad Studeným žlebem junction.

The bridge now known as “Stará Cihelka” is also called “Kamenný most” or “Cihlový most”. It is a stone-and-brick bridge from the late 19th century, located in a wooded valley. The arch opening contains a room that served as accommodation for forestry workers in the 1950s.

The centre of Zástřizly is served four times a day. Further bus connections are available at stops on the main road; these are located 500 metres from the village centre.
