Sulimov: Hotels, Hiking Trails and Culture

Sulimov is a linear village stretching 971 m, with an elevation difference of 66 m between the upper and lower parts of the village. In the upper part, the village widens into a village green, where the bell tower stands.

Nature

The “Trails through the northern Chřiby Hills” network includes information boards, hiking trail signs, viewpoints and benches. Some sections also feature educational elements for children. In the vicinity of Sulimov and Karolín, a viewpoint is located along a windbreak and also serves as a junction for local hiking trails. From there, visitors can enjoy views of the White Carpathians, the Zlín Region and the surrounding area of this section of the trail.

A short circular trail of just under 5 km runs through Sulimov. Along the way are three viewpoints overlooking the Hostýn Hills and the Vizovice Hills. A 10 km-long hiking trail connects Sulimov, Lubná and Vrbka. It passes through interesting landscapes and offers viewpoints, forest paths and a possible turnoff to a burial mound site.

Culture

The statue of Saint Anne (Socha svaté Anny) was erected in Sulimov in 1944. In the upper part of the village, it is set into the hillside and forms a distinctive landmark there. The Zapletalův kříž cross was erected above Sulimov in 1906 and is now located along the windbreak. It was completely renovated in September 2016. The renovation included a new replica of the figure and a new cross made of Hořice sandstone with a figure of Christ.

The bell tower (Zvonice) in Sulimov was built at the beginning of the 19th century. A major renovation is recorded for 1933; the last structural alteration was made in 1984. May devotions have been held at the bell tower again since 1997. Even around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, people in Sulimov wore traditional dress, with women wearing it for the longest. Sulimov also has a Moravian-Slovak dialect.

Food and Drink

The local history of slivovitz includes a distillery built in 1906 at the lower end of the village near St. Trojice for producing slivovitz. Every year at the end of January, the “Velký sulimovský košt slivovice” takes place at a local restaurant. The event is a tasting competition for the best sample of the respective season.
