Chropyně: Discover Nature, Culture and Hotels

Chropyně combines nature observation, ecclesiastical and secular history, and seasonal activities in one place. The different themes can be clearly distinguished from one another: at the pond, plants and birds are the main focus, while the château, church and regional traditions provide insights into history. The offerings are complemented by an educational trail, regular bus services and an outdoor swimming pool with fixed opening hours.

Nature

Chropyňský rybník is a pond where floating water chestnut grows and a diverse birdlife can be found. The educational trail “Okolo Chropyně” is also connected with this body of water. From the château side, it joins a green-marked hiking route and then leads onto a circuit around Chropyňský rybník. Its route, markings and connection to the pond are therefore all part of the same trail.

Culture and History

The historic sites include Zámek Chropyně, which offers the public guided tours of its historic interiors. The rooms on the first floor present the history of Chropyně from prehistoric times to the present day. The second floor commemorates the painter, sculptor and graphic artist Emil Filla, who was born in Chropyně. The château therefore focuses both on the history of the town and on the memory of an artist who was born there.

Kostel sv. Jiljí also features several distinctive details. The church was built in 1772 in the Baroque, so-called Josephine style. Its furnishings include a baptismal font by an unknown artist. It depicts the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist with life-size figures.

Another historical connection is preserved in the legend of King Ječmínek. It probably reached Chropyně with the Ludanicer family, which originated in Hungary. The Ludanicers owned Chropyně in the 15th century; the legend is connected with the Arpádovci, Hungary’s first ruling dynasty.

The Hanácké slavnosti have been held in Chropyně since 1985 and have taken place every odd-numbered year ever since.

In 2023, the Otevřené brány project opened ecclesiastical monuments in the Zlínský kraj region and offered guided tours with commentary.

Season and Trails

The outdoor swimming pool in Chropyně is open seasonally from May to September. In May and June, it is open Monday to Friday from 13:00 to 19:00, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 to 19:00. In July and August, it is open daily from 9:00 to 19:00. In September, the hours return to 13:00 to 19:00 Monday to Friday and 9:00 to 19:00 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Regular bus services provide connections to the town.
