Zborovice: Church, Castle and Paths to the Friess Crypt
Historic sites, rail connections and local traditions give Zborovice a distinct character. These include St. Bartholomew’s Church on the site of a former cemetery, the castle buildings with their different histories, and a walk to the crypt of the Friess family. The connection to Kroměříž and the work of the local KČT group also make the town tangible in several ways.
Culture
St. Bartholomew’s Church stands in Zborovice on the site of a former cemetery. The statues of Saint Florian and Saint John of Nepomuk were relocated to the church. The building has a cruciform floor plan and is heavily vaulted.
The history of the castle includes the former fortress of Zborovice, which was converted into a Baroque castle at the beginning of the 18th century. Next to the castle stands the New Castle, a two-storey pseudo-Renaissance villa. It was built in 1891 by the Viennese architects Helmer and Fellner. The crypt of the Friess family, the former owners of Zborovice, stands at the highest point of the castle garden.
Another cultural trail leads to amateur theatre in Zborovice: it began in 1895 as the theatre section of Sokol.
Getting around
Zborovice railway station is the terminus of a 17-kilometre branch line from Kroměříž. In addition to this terminus, passengers have also been able to use the Zborovice-zastávka stop in the lower part of the town for several years.
Throughout the year
Zborovice traditionally hosts a ball, a children’s carnival and a festive Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
Nature and paths
The KČT Zborovice local group has been caring for the local Hejtmanka spring since 2021. It cleans the spring several times a year, mows the grass and carries out necessary repairs. The local group also prepares routes, excursions and trips to tourist attractions in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
A walk to the crypt of the Friess family leads to Zborovice. The walk is considered suitable for hikers, families with children and cyclists. The route to the crypt runs along dirt and stony paths. Zborovice castle park includes a pond with benches.
When comparing accommodation in Zborovice, you should check the exact location, type of accommodation and occupancy of the selected offer. The included services, individual price components, and the booking and cancellation conditions are also relevant. Compare these details for the same period and the same number of people each time so that differences in price components or services remain apparent. The stated occupancy also helps prevent offers for different numbers of people from being mixed up. The decisive factors are the terms of the specific offer selected and the booking and cancellation conditions stated there.
