Halenkov is connected by marked trails to the ridges of the Javorníky and Vsetínské vrchy: on foot, by bicycle or on cross-country skis, they lead to the ridge of the Javorníky. Other marked trails lead via Vsacký Cáb, listed at 841 metres, to the ridge of the Vsetínské vrchy. A section of the 44-kilometre-long Bečva Cycle Route from Vsetín to Velké Karlovice also runs through the village.
Nature and Trails
The educational trail passes through all of Halenkov and connects the village with the neighbouring municipality of Lazy pod Makytou on the Slovak side of the Javorníky. It is almost 30 kilometres long, has thirteen stations, is open to tourists and cyclists, and is also suitable for a quiet walk.
A section of the educational trail from Dinotice via the upper ponds in Provazné can be covered by bicycle. The section of the Bečva Cycle Route running through Halenkov is also used by inline skaters.
Landscape
The small valleys of Halenkov have largely preserved the character of the peaceful and picturesque Valašsko landscape. Alternating flysch layers have created deep valleys, steep slopes, numerous spring areas, and diverse forest and meadow biotopes in the region’s landscape. A wooden cross on Kyčerka along the educational trail offers wide views over Valašsko and the Javorníky.
Culture
The late Baroque Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was built together with the rectory between 1786 and 1788. It has a single-nave layout with a transept, side chapels, an organ loft, and a five-storey western tower. At the same time, it forms part of a protected cemetery complex with a tower, a mortuary, an enclosing wall with two gates, and a niche chapel.
The educational trail begins at the restored “Boží muka” chapel in Dinotice. Hugo Thonet had it built in 1930. The chapel is a spiritual place and a lasting memorial to the Thonet family and to Halenkov’s history of bentwood furniture, through which the village became part of the history of global furniture design. In 1868, Michael Thonet founded a factory for bentwood furniture in Halenkov. Chairs from the Halenkov branch of Gebrüder Thonet became a symbol of lightness, elegance, and durability.
Activities
The sports complex in Halenkov includes a pump track with its own operating rules. The multi-purpose sports court can be reserved after user registration.
Events and Cuisine
In 2023, Halenkovské slavnosti was a traditional cultural event and reached its 19th edition. The traditional programme included a humorous performance by the fire brigade, which ended with the felling of a maypole. Halenkovský FRZEGUL is a traditional competition for the best quark frgál, the best cabbage, and the best goulash.
