The Beskydy Protected Landscape Area covers more than 555 km² within Vsetín District. The protected landscape area is considered one of the most valuable natural areas in Europe. It includes large parts of the Vsetín Hills and the Moravian Javorníky. Wallachian Culture
The Wallachian Open-Air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm is described as the oldest and largest open-air museum in Central Europe and comprises around 100 cultural heritage structures. The pastoral tradition in Wallachia evolved from extensive goat farming to sheep farming. Until the early 19th century, Wallachia had a high-quality linen industry that supported local livelihoods.
Pustevny is home to a distinctive ensemble of wooden buildings in the folk style. Libušín and Maměnka are among the best-known huts there. A statue of the pagan god Radegast stands on the Radhošť ridge. The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius on Radhošť is described as the highest-elevation ecclesiastical building in the Czech Republic.
Museums and History
At Vsetín Castle, the permanent exhibition “Living Memory of the Region” presents the history and traditions of Wallachia. The castle also has a Templar cellar with a playroom for knights. The natural history exhibition in the tower includes the Bečva River aquarium with live fish; traditional museum events are also held at the castle. The Museum of the Wallachian Region manages extensive ethnographic, historical and art collections.
Valašská dědina is the largest area of the Wallachian Open-Air Museum and shows everyday life in a Wallachian village from the late 18th century to the 1950s. It offers programmes on folk customs, children's games, lessons in the old school, agriculture, shepherding and crafts. In many buildings of the Wallachian Open-Air Museum, visitors can actively take part in activities and try traditional work. The Wallachian Open-Air Museum is open year-round.
Cycling
The Bečva Cycle Path connects Karolinka with Velké Karlovice through the valley of the Vsetínská Bečva. Experienced cyclists can continue from Strčková towards the Kyčerka ski resort and descend via the Baďurka trail.
