Velká Lhota: Hotels and Accommodations

Velká Lhota lies above the Bystřička Reservoir on the northern ridge of the Vsetín Hills. From Velká Lhota, there are views of the Rožnovská Bečva valley, Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, the surrounding Beskids, the Vsetín Hills, the Javorníky and the Hostýn Hills.

Landscape

The municipality of Velká Lhota is crossed by the Beskids Protected Landscape Area. Vrchhůra is 693 m high and Ostrý vrch is 672 m high; both are among the highest elevations in Velká Lhota. A majestic maple tree is a prominent landmark of the municipality.

Nature

Rare orchids and other rare flowers grow along the forest edges, including prstnatec Fuschův and vstavač mužský. Rare bird species breed in the area, including pěnice vlašská, ťuhýk obecný, bramborníček černohlavý, krkavec velký, jeřábek lesní, jeřáb lesní and kos horský. Several rarer amphibian species occur in the wetlands and ponds of Velká Lhota.

History and Faith

The wooden evangelical church without a tower in Velká Lhota was built in 1783. The wooden Toleration prayer house was declared a national cultural monument in 2008. Services and other church celebrations continue to be held every Sunday in the wooden Toleration Church. Jan Karafiát, the author of Broučci, was an evangelical pastor in Velká Lhota from 1875 to 1895.

The listed buildings in Malá Lhota include a wooden bell tower. The sandstone rocks of Medůvka are easily accessible from Malá Lhota and are used as practice rocks by climbers.

Trails and Activities

Several marked hiking trails pass through the municipality. In winter, cross-country ski trails run along the ridges, and the terrain is increasingly used for mountain biking.

The Jana Karafiát educational trail leads to the municipality of Velká Lhota, is 14 km long and has 16 stops. It introduces visitors to the nature and history of the area around Valašské Meziříčí.

Transport

A bus service connects Velká Lhota with Valašské Meziříčí; it was operated by ČSAD Valašské Meziříčí.
