Jasenná: Hotels, Culture, Educational Trails and Vartovna

Mikuláštíkovo fojtství in Jasenná is a national cultural monument that reopened to the public on June 11 after extensive reconstruction carried out between 2024 and 2026. New visitor facilities and a multimedia exhibition were created as part of the reconstruction.

Culture

The Baroque parish church of St. Mary Magdalene in Jasenná was built in 1672; its tower dates from 1732. Its furnishings include the organ built by Jan Neusser in 1846, which is considered one of the oldest instruments in the Zlín Region.

The Evangelical church in Jasenná, built in the Empire style, was constructed mainly from stone between 1833 and 1836. Its tower was added in 1861. Near Mikuláštíkovo fojtství there is also a statue of a Portáš, created in 1941 by sculptor Stanislav Mikuláštík. It commemorates the fact that Jiřík Mikuláštík was the captain of the Portáš at the beginning of the 18th century.

The Valašský soubor Portáš ensemble preserves traditional Wallachian culture and presents it publicly through folk songs, dances, customs and staged performances. In 2005, Valašský soubor Portáš revived the tradition of Jasenná's church consecration processions by leading a ram.

Nature

A 37-metre-high lookout tower stands on Vartovna, the highest point in the cadastral territory of Jasenná. The Vartovna lookout tower has a covered observation platform at a height of 35 metres, accessible via 213 steps.

Průkopa is a protected natural monument in the cadastral territories of Jasenná and Lutonina. Průkopa exposes Vsetín Beds and is considered a suitable place for excursions. The natural monument is freely accessible; access by car is possible to within 250 metres.

At the end of the Baťova dráha in Jasenná, visitors can visit a municipal orchard with old regional varieties.

Educational Trails and Routes

The Portášská naučná stezka educational trail runs through the municipality of Jasenná. The Oškerovy paseky–Jasenná–Vartovna educational trail is 7 kilometres long and has six stations and three information points.

The Baťova dráha from Vizovice to Jasenná is 5 kilometres long, not very demanding, and suitable for families with children and prams. The hike along the Baťova dráha ends in Jasenná near the Evangelical church.

A marked cycling route leads from Hošťálková via Baťková and Syrákov to Vartovna and Vsetín. The hiking trails in Jasenná can be used for cross-country skiing in winter.

Getting There and Transport

Road I/69 connects Jasenná between Zlín and Vsetín. Railway line 331 Otrokovice–Zlín–Vizovice extends as far as Vizovice; Vizovice is 6 kilometres from Jasenná.
