Poteč: Ploštiny, Dělanovec and Local History

Half of Poteč’s municipal area lies within the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. In addition, Ploštiny, Dělanovec and local traditions offer several clearly distinct facets that showcase the village through nature, pilgrimage, sport and history.

Nature

At 739 m, Ploštiny is the highest peak of the White Carpathians in Poteč. The area is considered particularly valuable from a landscape perspective and offers beautiful views, especially towards Slovakia. In Poteč, the focus is therefore both on the protection of a larger landscape and on a specifically named peak with far-reaching views.

Culture

Dělanovec is a small pilgrimage site in the hills above Poteč. The Chapel of Our Lady Queen and a spring stand at Dělanovec. Dělanovec is also a waypoint on the southern route of Via Czechia. A pilgrimage spring lies 300 m to the northeast; a Chapel of Our Lady is located there.

The Potečské hody festival takes place regularly on 28 September and begins with a festive Mass at the local chapel. Paintings by the painter Bohumír Lindauer are also displayed in a chapel in Poteč.

History

Earlier livelihoods in Poteč included, in particular, agriculture and crop farming. Households also produced shingles and felt soles for valašské slipper makers.

Fruit growing was also widespread in Poteč. This included drying apples and plums and, later, distilling spirits.

Sport

The multi-purpose sports field in Poteč is open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. After reservation, it can be used for tennis, small-sided football, handball, nohejbal, volleyball and basketball. If the ice is thick enough, ice hockey is also possible there.
