Kašava: Hotels, Nature Trail and Cultural Monument

Kašava lies in the Hostýnské vrchy Nature Park and in the deep valley of the Dřevnice. In the cadastral territory of the municipality, the Nad Kašavou natural area combines with marked paths, viewpoints and a history of sacred architecture reaching back to the Middle Ages.

Nature

The Nad Kašavou Natural Monument lies in the cadastral territory of Kašava. It protects the habitat of a mesophilic oat-grass meadow. Rare plants and animals occur in the area, including the sand lizard, red-backed shrike and Eurasian golden oriole. A pond also lies along the nature trail and is considered an interesting natural phenomenon.

From Vrzavé skály, there is a view southwest over the Vizovické vrchy, the water surface of the Slušovická přehrada reservoir and the valley of Kašava. Another view opens up from the upland meadow near Vinohrádek: from there, the Vizovické vrchy and the summit of Doubrava, with its television transmitter and observation tower, can be seen.

Paths and Nature Trail

The Naučná stezka Kašava nature trail is 17.5 km long and has 11 stations, 2 benches, 32 signposts and 14 Stations of the Cross. These traditional biblical stations line the Way of the Cross leading uphill towards Vinohrádek above Kašava. The trail covers local history, the parish, the school, traditions, folklore and customs, as well as motorsport. Other topics include the vanished settlement of Janůvky, the crash of an American bomber in 1944, nature, springs and viewpoints.

The Way of the Cross follows a yellow hiking trail marker and comes close to the second station of the nature trail near Vinohrádek. A descent through the forest from Vrzavé skály passes by the Liduška spring and continues along the return route towards Kašava. The hiking trail through Kašava also passes the Chapel of Our Lady Queen at Vinohrádek. There is also a monument to fallen American airmen along the hiking trail.

Culture

In the centre of the municipality stands the Church of St. Catherine, “kostel sv. Kateřiny”, in Kašava, a protected cultural monument and a Baroque building dating from before the mid-18th century. The new Baroque stone church was founded in 1745. The existence of the church in Kašava and its right of patronage are documented in the land registers for the year 1480; Saint Catherine was chosen as its patron saint.
