Návojná: Hotels, Nature and Local Traditions
Návojná can be experienced through its landscape, local culture and the cycle of the year. Natural monuments, historical traces, summer activities and events alternate here, closely connected with the village and the Závrší area.
Culture and Traditions
A local cultural monument is the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, built as a masonry bell tower. House No. 4, including its furnishings, is an example of local folk architecture. Návojná Château, completed in 1851, adds another historical feature. The historic park of Návojná Château contained more than two hundred cultivated woody plants.
Traditional customs are also part of cultural life. In Návojná, a Fašank carnival procession is held, accompanied by social gatherings and tastings of traditional Zabijačka specialities. The traditional Easter procession of the tragačníci and klepáčníci is also maintained. In the period before Christmas, a St Nicholas procession featuring devils and typical masks from Závrší passes through the municipality.
Nature and Landscape
The Závrší area near Návojná lies in the CHKO Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area, close to the Czech-Slovak border. The Závrší area is home to the Pod Horou Natural Monument, a protected meadow rich in flowers in the White Carpathians. The Pod Horou Natural Monument is home to, among others, the orchid species prstnatec bezový and hlavinka horská.
The original landscape character, traditional wooden houses and abundant greenery have been preserved in the Závrší area. The Valašské pastorále hiking trail leads over the hills around Závrší and through several nature reserves and natural monuments where traditional sheep grazing has been reintroduced.
Hiking and Events
Valašské pastorále is a 23-kilometre, moderately difficult hiking trail in the surroundings of Závrší, which comprises the three Wallachian municipalities of Návojná, Nedašov and Nedašova Lhota. The route thus focuses both on the hilly landscape and on the distinctive regional settlement and grazing traditions.
A seasonal option is the Návojná outdoor swimming pool, which operates every season in July and August. The Návojná swimming pool complex includes a paddling pool with a water play feature, a small slide and a children’s play area. In addition, the Návojská osmička event returned for the third time after two successful editions.
