Culture

The Gelati Monastery was begun in 1106 near Kutaisi on a wooded hill above the Tskaltsitela River; its main church was completed in 1130. It stands on Mount Ukimerioni; almost all of Kutaisi can be seen from there, and a visit to the cathedral also offers this view.
