Tetri Tskaro: Hotels and Accommodation
Tetritsqaro is a small town in mountains covered with mixed forests. Anyone wishing to book a hotel in Tetri Tskaro can continue searching for accommodation afterward. The town is believed to have been inhabited since ancient times and to have been repeatedly destroyed and revived throughout its history. Its name changed four times before Tetritsqaro was adopted in 1940.
History
Archaeological excavations in Tetritsqaro uncovered settlements dating from the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age. Foundations of round and rectangular stone dwellings have survived. Most of the recovered archaeological material belongs to the early phase of the Kura-Araxes culture.
Culture
The Tetritsqaro Local History Museum preserves up to 11,000 exhibits dating from the Chalcolithic period to the 20th century. They include archaeological finds, paintings, graphics, sculptures, numismatic collections, and ethnographic material; the collection also includes an ancient four-wheeled cart.
The Church of St. Nicholas was built between 1840 and 1847 and was known as a regimental church. A historical description compares its architecture with that of Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. A theater has existed in the Culture and Recreation Park since the 19th century. The first opera performance in Georgian history took place in Tetritsqaro in December 1837. Tetritsqaro's present-day main water source was built after 1847.
Surroundings
The ancient city ruins of Samshvilde lie 15 kilometers from Tetritsqaro. Samshvilde was inhabited in the 4th to 3rd centuries BC; visitors can explore moss-covered ruins and traces of an ancient water supply system there. The historic village of Garisi once stood on the site of Tetritsqaro; the Pirghebuli monastery complex is the surviving remnant identified there.
Pitareti, with an active monastery, lies near Tetritsqaro. The nearby Birtvisi Fortress was carved out of a naturally steep rock massif.
Nature
Tetritsqaro has severely cold winters with heavy snowfall and intense frost, as well as pleasantly cool summers. In Tetritsqaro Municipality, Lake Lipi offers opportunities for picnicking, fishing, and spending the night in a tent; it lies in a landscape surrounded by forests, heathland, and fields.
The nearby Khrami Gorge includes canyons, caves, and ancient churches. The nearby Muguti Caves form a network of 26 caves, most of which date from the Late Bronze Age.
