Sušćepan: Hotels and Accommodation

Culture and History

The Church of St Stephen in Sušćepan is recognised in Montenegro as a cultural asset of national importance. Its parapet slabs bearing griffins are pre-Romanesque Byzantine works from the 9th century. The church was built during the time of Tvrtko or Herceg Stjepan. A memorial plaque at the house of Jovo Grbić commemorates the meeting place of the illegal fighters and NOR fighters Nedeljko and Petar Grbić.

Trails and Landscape

Sušćepan is part of an active tourism destination that includes the hinterland of Sušćepan, Ratiševina and Mokrine. The Tatar bašta–Sušćepan–Ratiševina–Mokrine trail connects hinterland villages with churches and other attractions and is suitable for walks and hikes. It is described as a route near the town.

The Tatar Bašta (old bridge)–Sušćepan (Bostanj spring) trail was marked with mountain signs by the “Subra” mountaineering club. The stonework was repaired, vegetation was removed and signposts pointing towards Sušćepan were installed. The trail reaches Bostanj spring after about 20 minutes of easy walking. The springs of Sušćepan were described as neatly laid out and paved places where the villagers gathered. From Bostanj spring, a path leads to St. Kozma and Damjana, the church and a viewpoint; these destinations are a little more than 20 minutes away on foot.
