Bascov draws attention to two very different sides of the same place: the 162-hectare Lacul Bascov bird sanctuary extends across the localities of Bascov and Budeasa. The village is also home to the wooden church dedicated to “Sf. Gheorghe”; it is a historic monument.

Nature and Landscape
The Lacul Bascov protected area encompasses the waters of the Bascov Reservoir on the Argeș River. The municipality of Bascov also includes part of the Argeș River floodplain and the Cotmeana Plateau, a relatively level transitional landscape between the Subcarpathian hills and the plain. The local water network includes the Argeș River, the Bascov stream, and the Bascov and Budeasa reservoirs.
For your personal planning, you can compare nature and culture as separate focal points: water, floodplain and transitional landscape alongside wooden architecture, educational work and public events.
History and Culture
The wooden church was donated by the merchant Martin Buliga from Pitești and built in the mid-18th century. Its six carved window frames feature different decorative motifs: cross, rhombus, ivy leaf, rosette, “alveole” and “tree of life”. It stands about 300 metres from the civic centre of the Bascov municipality.
The Route of the Wooden Churches in Argeș County lists ecclesiastical wooden monuments in the territory of Bascov municipality and in the village of Glâmbocu.
