Culture

The Museum of History and Archaeology in Bacău presents local history through various historical periods using ceramics, tools, jewellery and ritual objects.

The permanent exhibition of the Bacău Art Museum comprises 350 works displayed in two halls, covering old art, painting, graphic art, decorative art and sculpture. Arranged chronologically, it traces the development of Romanian visual art from its beginnings to the present day.

The Nicu Enea Memorial House is located in a building constructed in 1926, which has been classified as a historic monument and included on Romania’s list of historic monuments. The exhibition in the memorial house presents part of Nicu Enea’s artistic work.

The “Precista” Church in Bacău was built in 1489–1490 and completed on 1 January 1491. It was part of the medieval architectural complex of the princely court of Bacău.

The Bacău Ethnographic Museum displays 1729 choir stalls made for the church in Rusăiești-Poduri, as well as a Tree of Life carpet dated 1843 from the “Sfinții Împărați Constantin și Elena” Church in Bacău. The permanent exhibition presents agriculture and livestock farming as the main occupations, as well as beekeeping, hunting and fishing as secondary activities.

Nature

Lacul Bacău II is a 202-hectare special avifaunistic protection area in Bacău.

The permanent exhibitions of the Bacău Museum of Natural Sciences cover Romania’s forest ecosystems, nature conservation, the minerals of the Earth’s crust and a miniature cave. The Bacău Vivarium presents native and exotic reptiles in terrariums designed to create conditions as close to natural as possible. As of 22 June 2026, the Bacău Museum of Natural Sciences at No. 9 Aleea Parcului suspended its activities for the public due to a comprehensive modernisation and expansion project for the exhibition spaces.

Observation and Music

The “Victor Anestin” Astronomical Observatory regularly holds public observation sessions for solar and lunar eclipses, transits of the inner planets across the solar disk, as well as for the Sun, Moon, planets, star clusters and galaxies.

The “Mihail Jora” Philharmonic of Bacău organises national and international festivals, including “Enescu, Orfeul Moldav” in Bacău and Tescani, “Zilele Muzicii Contemporane” and “Festivalul serilor băcăuane”.

Visiting

The “George Bacovia” Memorial House is open Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00 and closed on Mondays. The Nicu Enea Memorial House is open Tuesday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00; it is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. Admission to all museums in the “Iulian Antonescu” Museum Complex is free.
