The wooden church “Biserica de lemn cu hramul «Sf. Nicolae» de la Gura Văii” was built in 1680 and is located in the center of Gura Văii.

The church “Biserica cu hramurile «Adormirea Maicii Domnului şi Sf. Ştefan» de la Gura Văii” was built in 1750 by Ștefan Roset Velban. It stands south of Gura Văii in the former hamlet of Pătrăşcani; extensions were added in the 19th century.

The church “Naşterea Maicii Domnului” in Gura Văii was originally called “Biserica «Sf. Nicolae», din Râpile de Jos” and received its current name in 1963. Its iconostasis contains seven large icons painted in the second half of the 18th century.

The Gura Văii–La Coşuri archaeological site is located north of the village of Gura Văii, on Coşuri Hill, approximately 1.5 kilometers north of the commune center.

The heroes’ monument “Monumentul Eroilor de la Biserica Pătrășcani” was erected in 1919.

The Pătrășcani-Siliște archaeological settlement in the commune of Gura Văii was inhabited during the Early Bronze Age and during phases Ic3 and Ic2 in the development of the Monteoru culture.

History

Historically, Gura Văii was a Răzeși village; its former settlement core was located at Huitoare on the slope of Runcu Hill. As it developed, Gura Văii shifted its settlement focus to the left bank of the Trotuș.

Landscape

The commune of Gura Văii is located in the Subcarpathians of the Eastern Carpathians and in the Trotuș Depression. It also lies at the transition between the Pietricica ridge and the Tazlău–Cașin Depression.

The hilly area of the commune of Gura Văii is predominantly forested. In the southwest, the Trotuș River forms the natural boundary of the commune.

Getting Around

County road DJ 119 crosses the commune of Gura Văii and connects the Bacău–Onești direction with the commune’s districts, including Gura Văii.

Public transport in the commune of Gura Văii is organized across six routes with a total length of 260 kilometers; there are also nine developed bus stops.
