The Măgura Codlei area has six hiking trails homologated in 2021, leading to the Vârful Măgura Codlei summit, the ruins of Cetatea Neagră and Ștrandul Codlea with its two associated lakes.

The different destinations give you several starting points for planning your day: you can consider route, elevation, history and the water area as separate focuses, without combining the places into a single programme. Your choice of destination can be based on the activity you want and the time available.

When comparing hotels in Codlea, you can compare travel dates, room category and cancellation policies side by side on the offer pages. Which fields you consider depends on your planned stay and the importance you attach to flexible conditions.

Nature and hiking trails

The Vârful Măgura Codlei summit is located at an elevation of 1,292 m. Part of the administrative area of the city of Codlea belongs to the European Natura 2000 ecological network.

The Zona Maial–Poiana Mărul Dulce–Cetatea Neagră trail is an easy hiking trail that runs mostly along a forest road and entirely through the forest, with no exposed sections.

For your planning, trails can be compared by destination, trail character, elevation and landscape area; the different types of activity remain clearly separate.

Culture and architecture

The Evangelical Church of Codlea was built in the second half of the 13th century. A fortified church was built around the Evangelical Church of Codlea in 1432. It has a ceiling dating from 1702 and an organ with 2,000 pipes.

The Culture House of the city of Codlea is a building constructed between 1881 and 1925 in the neoclassical style, with Baroque influences and elements of Saxon architecture.

Biblioteca Codlea was built in 1908 and initially also served as the seat of the district court, as well as a post and telegraph office with the telephone exchange of the time; its architecture combines Baroque and neoclassical elements.

Access to the Evangelical Church of Codlea is possible only by prior telephone request or by email.

Movement, landscape, architectural history and water can be considered as separate focuses. The different types of activity and historical dates offer several factual levels for your personal day planning.

Water and events

Ștrandul din Codlea was established in 1904 through the efforts of the Association for the Beautification of Codlea.

The pool at Ștrandul din Codlea is fed by a source of the Goldbach, the Pârâul de Aur; its water has a year-round temperature of 18°C.

The Ștrandul din Codlea area includes two lakes covering 7 ha, which are rich in fish and serve for recreation and leisure activities.

The traditional Crown Festival takes place every year in June in Zona Maial.
