Prejmer: UNESCO Heritage, Nature and Townscape
Prejmer's UNESCO heritage includes the architectural ensemble of Cetatea Ţărănească Prejmer and the Evangelical Church of Prejmer.
Culture and History
The wall of Cetatea Ţărănească Prejmer is 480 metres long and 12 metres high. Cetatea Ţărănească Prejmer comprises 272 storage and refuge rooms on four levels. Cetatea Ţărănească Prejmer houses an ethnographic museum showcasing various aspects of life in the Saxon communities. The fortified ensemble includes a defensive walkway with loopholes and channels for pouring boiling water.
The Orthodox Church of “Sfinţii Apostoli Petru şi Pavel” was built in 1769 and features Baroque elements. The Şcoala Germană in Prejmer dates from the 19th century and is listed as a local historical and architectural monument. Houses from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries are listed as UNESCO cultural heritage sites at the addresses Str. Mare No. 2 and 57, Str. Pompierilor No. 13, Str. Cenuşii No. 105, Str. Braşovului No. 56 and 57, and Str. Pajiştei No. 1043.
Prejmer's historic plots and the continuous street frontage of the houses, whose gable ends generally face the street, are well preserved. An old canal system survives in Broaştei and Morii streets. Washing and rinsing areas are preserved on Izvoarelor Street and at the extension of Cetăţii Street.
Nature
The protected Natura 2000 site Pădurile şi mlaştinile eutrofe de la Prejmer covers 356 hectares, of which 242 hectares lie within the territory of Prejmer commune.
Leisure and Events
The go-kart track at Prejmer Raceway is 1,250 metres long, 8 to 10 metres wide and has 15 turns. Prejmer Raceway is designed as a track for amateur and professional drivers and offers fast straights and challenging corners under high safety standards.
The Centrul Cultural şi de Agrement “Cetate” is designated as a leisure centre in Prejmer. The “Diletto Musicale” festival includes organ concerts at the Prejmer fortress in August.
The Federația Ecvestră Română lists ACSE 163 PLOPI in Prejmer in connection with show-jumping competitions. In addition, the Federația Ecvestră Română lists Clubul de Echitatie 163 Plopi in Prejmer in connection with Working Equitation.
The “Fasching” festival is held in the municipality of Prejmer before the start of the Easter fasting period. During the Fasching festival, two young men dressed as cooks prepare pancakes on a cart equipped with a hotplate.
Geographical Location
As of 8 September 2025, RATBV route 520 ran from the Gara Brașov terminal via Parc Industrial Prejmer and the streets Str. Brașovului, Str. Mare, Str. Pictor Iacob Brujan and Str. Principală to Lunca Câlnicului in Prejmer.
