Izvoarele: Churches, Archaeology and Lowland Landscape

The Isvoarele-Fântânele settlement is classified as a Neolithic and Eneolithic settlement. West of the village of Izvoarele lies the archaeological site “La Fântână”. The “Cuvioasa Paraschiva” Church in Izvoarele is classified as a building of local interest and dates from 1890.

The “Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavril” Church in Valea Bujorului dates from 1850. The different construction and rebuilding years give the historical topics a chronological progression.

The commune of Izvoarele is located in a lowland region. Mănafu Forest lies west of the village of Valea Bujorului.

Mănafu Forest was designated a forest reserve in 1954 and covers 278 hectares. It consists of downy oaks mixed with Turkey oaks, Hungarian oaks and planted acacias.
