Valea Adâncă: Churches, Archaeology and Landscape

The Biserica Sfântul Nicolae in Valea Adâncă was begun in 1715 and completed in 1716. The church's patronal feast is celebrated on 6 December. Among the more recent sacred buildings is the church of the new cemetery in Valea Adâncă, which was consecrated on 2 August 2020. The cemetery church, dedicated to “Nașterea Sfântului Ioan Botezătorul” and “Sfântul Daniil Sihastrul”, was built between 2019 and 2020. The two churches therefore have distinctly different dates of origin: construction of the Biserica Sfântul Nicolae dates back to the early 18th century, while the cemetery church was built only in 2019 and 2020. The fixed date of the patronal feast provides a clear temporal reference for travel planning. Current event times should be checked before arrival. Archaeological traces are also part of the picture of Valea Adâncă. The archaeological site of Valea Adâncă is one of the four archaeological sites of local historical interest in the municipality of Miroslava. Flint axes from the Late Neolithic were discovered on Dealul Nucului near Valea Adâncă. The Biserica Sfântul Nicolae in Valea Adâncă was historically documented by Nicolae Iorga in 1776 in “Studii”. Thus, in Valea Adâncă and its immediate surroundings, sacred buildings and archaeological evidence with very different temporal references stand side by side, ranging from the Late Neolithic through the 18th century to the more recent cemetery church. The flint axes point to an era that significantly predates the churches mentioned.

The Palatul Culturii Iași, a palace, is located in the immediate vicinity of Valea Adâncă. Casa Dosoftei - Muzeul Literaturii Române Iași is a museum in the immediate vicinity of Valea Adâncă. Also nearby are Statuia lui Gheorghe Asachi, a monument, and Monumentul „Academia Mihaileana“ Iasi, also a monument. The four destinations mentioned therefore differ in their function: alongside a palace and a museum, there are two monuments. This combination of a representative building, a literary museum and places of remembrance expands Valea Adâncă’s cultural surroundings with various forms of architecture and public commemoration. Several named elevations are also located in the surroundings of Valea Adâncă. Dealul Păun is a mountain near Valea Adâncă. Dealul Surda is a hill near Valea Adâncă, as are Dealul Bârca and La Floreanca. The area around Valea Adâncă therefore includes Dealul Păun as a mountain, as well as Dealul Surda, Dealul Bârca and La Floreanca as hills. The different names and types of terrain can be taken into account when planning excursions into the surrounding area. Current route conditions should be checked before travelling to natural and landscape attractions.
