The complex also includes changing rooms, fitness rooms, a dry diving training room, saunas, a restaurant and a relaxation area. The Complex Sportiv de Natație Otopeni is intended to host national and international competitions and has approximately 2,800 spectator seats. Culture and History

The “Ion Manu” Cultural Centre in Otopeni offers theatre performances, concerts, art exhibitions and workshops for children and adults. It also organises special events and festivals. The course programme includes courses in folk dance, classical and modern dance, foreign languages, glass painting and chess; they are led by professional teachers, masters and artists. For a cultural day plan, performances, courses, exhibitions, special events and the festival can be considered as different formats.

The Festival of Romanian Folk Art and Folk Tradition takes place every year at the beginning of September in Otopeni and has already been held for the 23rd time. The festival is regarded as an experience that connects the past and present through folk traditions.

The first documented mention of Otopeni dates back to 1587 and is found in a document issued by Prince Mihnea Turcitul. During construction work on Bucharest “Henri Coandă” International Airport, archaeologist Margareta Constantiniu discovered ceramic fragments and objects from the first period of the Iron Age in 1966. A settlement from the 10th century AD was also found in this area, indicating continuous habitation. When planning your own visit, you can distinguish the historical evidence by period and type of find.

Parks and Gardens

Parc Central is regarded as a green oasis in the heart of Otopeni. Otopeni’s public municipal parks and gardens are used for recreation, relaxation and outdoor sports. Park and sports topics can be listed separately alongside one another when planning your day.

Otopeni has its own public transport line called “Linia Albastră”. Express Line 100 connects Bucharest-Otopeni “Henri Coandă” International Airport with Otopeni and the centre of Bucharest, continuing to Piața Unirii. For your own orientation, you can read the two named connections as separate transport information.
