Ceraşu: Hiking Trails, Nature and History

Cerașu is a submontane settlement surrounded by mountain ridges and peaks. The named peaks include Vârful lui Crai, Clăbucetul, Leurdeanul, Căprioru and Chimniți. The northern part of Cerașu has montane characteristics; spruce, fir and beech dominate the vegetation.

Landscape and Nature

A reserve for bears and wild boars is located in the village of Valea Borului. A fauna reserve is located in the village of Valea Lespezii. Hiking Trails

The tourist route from Slon passes through the Teleajen Subcarpathians, follows the Drajna River, crosses the Tătaru Mountains and runs over Dealul Grohotișului. In the Cerașu area, hikes to Vârful lui Crai are available; the peak is listed as having an elevation of 1,473 m. Hikes towards the valley of the Basca River are also available.

The routes Cerașu–Ciuga–Vf. Craiu–Tabla Buții, Cerașu–Ciuga–Schinda–Boncuța–Valea Stânii and Cerașu–Valea Lespezii–Stângaciu–Gămălie are designated tourist hiking trails. The Măneciu–Vârful lui Crai–Tabla Buții hiking trail is marked with a blue cross. The route from Măneciu to Tabla Buții leads to a pass between the Ciucaș and the Tătaru Mare ridge. Today, access to Pasul Tabla Buții is via forest roads and tourist trails.

Culture and History

The medieval fortress “Cetatea medievală de la Slon – La Ciuga” is located in La Ciuga in the village of Slon, in the administrative unit of Cerașu, in the Dealul Grohotișului area. The tourist route includes the La Cinga medieval fortification from the 9th century. The Tabla Buții fortress is also part of the tourist route; it is dated to the 13th to 16th centuries. Cerașu has houses featuring traditional architecture.
