Provița de Sus is the birthplace of the future Metropolitan Pimen Georgescu: he was born in Prahova County on October 22, 1853. From 1909 to 1934, Pimen Georgescu was Metropolitan of Moldavia.

Pimen Georgescu is buried in the churchyard of the Adormirea Maicii Domnului Church, at the level of the pronaos. The present-day church in Provița de Sus has a trefoil-shaped floor plan; its walls, built from thin bricks, are 1 m thick.

The Biserica Ortodoxă Cocorăştii Caplii, Biserica Sfânta Treime and Biserica Sfinţii Voievozi churches are located around Provița de Sus. In the wider regional area lies Peles Castle, a fortress.

The monument to the heroes of Provița de Sus stands opposite the church, on the other side of the road, in a small square lined with fir trees; its façade faces the church. Six hundred Romanian soldiers from Provița de Sus fought in the war for Romania’s national unification from 1916 to 1918.
