The Church of the “Sfinții Împărați Constantin și Elena” was built between 2010 and 2016 in the classical Moldavian, Ștefanian style. The interior and exterior walls of the church of the Sucevița Monastery are completely decorated with 16th-century murals.
In the center of the commune is the “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” Church of the Straja I Parish. It was built between 1867 and 1870 and first consecrated in October 1877. On May 19, 2023, a Marian icon from the Metropolitan Cathedral of Cluj-Napoca was put on display for veneration in the Church of the “Sfinții Împărați Constantin și Elena”.
The Casa Muzeu – Straja was donated to the Adormirea Maicii Domnului Parish in Straja in 2019 and moved that same year to the vicinity of the church, onto the parish grounds. Its collection includes numerous old household objects gathered in the village, as well as old letters and postcards from the front, prisons, and concentration camps, along with medals and awards from the two World Wars.
Traditional weaving for folk costumes is still practiced in Straja; this also includes the characteristic “Trăistuța de la Straja”. Casa Juravle is a traditional building with a cultural identity specific to the region. The Muzeul Satului Bucovinean in Suceava displays a Gospodărie Straja originating from Straja as an example of vernacular architecture.
The “Străjăncuța” folklore ensemble was founded in Straja in 1974 and preserves authentic songs, dances, Christmas carols, and customs across five generations.

Nature and Landscape
The Suceava River crosses Straja from east to west; Straja is part of the Obcinele Bucovinei. Forests cover a large part of the area of Straja Commune.
The path to Vârful Scorbura begins in Straja on the road to the former CFR station. After leaving the road to the former station, the path climbs through the forest. Vârful Scorbura is indicated at an elevation of 980 m on the route from Straja.
The surroundings of Straja Commune include Hora Petroushka Mountain, the Vârful Alunişului peak, Dealul lui Maxim Mountain, and the Muntele Bursucului peak. Also in the vicinity are the “Biserica Ortodoxă Sfântul Gheorghe Laura” Church, the “Biserica Penticostală Plai Vicovu de Sus” Church, the “Biserica Ortodoxă Sfântul Andrei Bivolâria” Church, and the “Biserica Ortodoxă Centru Vicovu de Sus” Church.
Events
The event “MÂNDRA-I STRAJA-N SĂRBĂTOARE!” is scheduled to take place in Straja Commune in September 2026. The 2023 edition of the event “Mândră-i Straja-n sărbătoare” began with religious ceremonies and continued with cultural, educational, and recognition events. The event reached its seventh edition in 2023.
