Recaș Between Winegrowing History and Banat Culture

Since the 2nd. The Recaş Museum displays a copy of a document from Budapest dated November 11, 1447, recording the purchase of the Recaş vineyards. The year 1447 thus marks the first documentary evidence of winegrowing, while the document displayed in the museum links the same historical period to the purchase of the vineyards.

The local history museum of Recaş was opened after restoration in 2002 in the home of the physician Iosif Stitzl. The building is representative of Recaş's old architecture. The local history department comprises five rooms on the upper floor. The ground floor houses departments for ethnography, cultural anthropology and sports. Thus, alongside local history, the museum also contains cultural and sports-related collection areas.

Cramele Recaş offers visitors guided tours through vineyards and the winery. Themed wine tastings are also available. Both offerings remain closely connected to winegrowing: the tours lead through the cultivated areas and the winery, while the tastings are organized by theme.

The Herneacova equestrian center offers riding lessons for amateurs. The Izvin stud breeds, selects and qualifies horses of the Nonius, Ardennes and English Thoroughbred breeds. Thus, in connection with horses, the focus is clearly on both instruction for amateurs and the breeding, selection and qualification of specifically named breeds.

The Recaş water tower was renovated after its technical function in the water supply network had ended and was integrated into the city's tourist tour. Its former role in the water supply network is therefore a thing of the past, while the renovated tower is now part of the city tour.

“Ziua Orașului Recaş” takes place every year in June and is a festive event of the local community. The “Recăşeana” dance ensemble contributes to preserving and promoting the folk traditions of Banat and is regarded as an expression of Romanian cultural identity in Recaş. In Izvin, the Ottlik Péter manor house was built by Ottlik Péter in 1893. The city festival, dance ensemble and manor house thus represent communal, cultural and historical connections.

The Biserica Adormirea Maicii Domnului church and the Biserica Sfântul Gheorghe church are located in the vicinity of Recaş. The Piatra Roşie and Moşniţa hills are also located in the vicinity of Recaş. In the wider regional surroundings of Recaş are the historical site Casa Contelui Mercy Timişoara and the Dealul Ghizela and Dealul Osnaşului hills. This spatial classification distinguishes between destinations in the vicinity and the historical and landscape sites located farther away in the region.
