Timişoara bears its history at prominent sites: Castelul Huniade was built over the ruins of the medieval fortress of Timişoara and served as a royal residence between 1315 and 1323.
When choosing a hotel in Timişoara, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions are among the factors used for comparison. In addition, culture, history, landscape and routes are separate themes of trip planning. These themes can be compared independently for your own planning.
Culture and History
Muzeul Apei is located on the site of the former Urseni waterworks (1914–1991), Timişoara's first drinking-water treatment plant. The Muzeul Apei visitor route includes three industrial heritage buildings from the former Urseni waterworks. At Muzeul Satului Bănățean, the permanent interactive exhibition “O zi din viața satului – Banatul în comunism” is dedicated to everyday life in a Banat village during the communist period.
During restoration work, the temporary exhibitions of Muzeul Național al Banatului are currently being shown at Bastionul Theresia at 4 Martin-Luther Street. The square's noteworthy baroque buildings include the Roman Catholic Cathedral and the Baroque Palace. One building currently houses the National Theatre, the Romanian Opera, the German Theatre and the Hungarian Theatre.
In the immediate vicinity of Timişoara are Casa Contelui Mercy Timişoara as a historic site, Fântâna cu Peşti Timişoara as a monument, Statuia Lupoaicei Timişoara as a monument and Monumentul Sfântului Ioan Nepomuk Timişoara as a monument.
Landscape and Routes
In the area around Timişoara are Fântâna lui Goga as a spring, Dealul Flămând as a hill and Moşniţa as a hill. In the wider regional surroundings of Timişoara lies La Canton as a hill. Regina Maria Park was opened to the public in 1862 as an English-style park.
On the banks of the Bega, a cycling tour can follow a 37 km-long cycle route to the border with Serbia. The spatial levels – immediate vicinity, surrounding area and wider regional surroundings – can be considered separately when different geographical references are incorporated into the planning.
The cultural and landscape stops also differ in their spatial classification. Immediate vicinity, surrounding area and wider regional surroundings should therefore not be understood as the same category. For planning purposes, geographical reference, stop type and theme can be set out separately alongside one another before a personal sequence is created.
The formats museum, city tour, park and cycle route can be compared as different types of stops when planning your own day. Other location pages are Luncanii de Jos, Tomești, Bogda, Sacalaz, Recaș, Ghiroda and Sânandrei.
The city tour is a walking tour through the most important sights in the centre of Timişoara and conveys the history of the city.
