Lučatín in the Hron Valley – Nature, Culture and Hotels
Lučatín lies in the Hron Valley, in the Zvolenská kotlina basin and the Bystrické podolie region. The Hron River forms meanders within the municipality. At the same time, the municipality extends into the Veporské vrchy mountains and is part of an area where hiking trails, cycling routes, ecclesiastical buildings and traditional culture exist in close proximity to one another.
Nature
The highest point in the municipality of Lučatín is Kupcova poľana, at an elevation of 815 metres in the Veporské vrchy mountains. Kupcova poľana is also the easternmost point of the municipality. Lučatín is one of the municipalities in the Banskobystrický Geopark. Since 2016, it has been a national geopark of the Slovak Republic and has been included in the network of Slovak geoparks. At Bukovienka, hikers took a short break; tourists travelling down the Hron camped there.
Activities
A hike from Lučatín railway station follows the Hronský chodník trail along the Hron River. On a hike from Lučatín towards Hiadeľ, the path branches off onto the Horský chodník trail. A local trail through the Kotáčová Valley leads to cycle route no. 5558, the Brusniansky okruh.
The Hiadeľ – Hiadeľské sedlo – Moštenica – Lučatín – Hiadeľ cycling route is 33 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 938 metres. It is distinctly hilly; the steepest climb is towards Hiadeľské sedlo, and the route is suitable for mountain bikes. Another cycling tour through the scenic landscape of northern Podpoľanie passes through Lučatín between Ľubietová and Ľupča.
The rafting offer is considered a sporting activity for beginners and experienced participants; life jackets are also available for younger children.
Culture
In the distant past, a small hillfort stood on Hradište hill above Lučatín and served as a watch post. The Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Lučatín is a single-nave Neo-Gothic building dating from 1892. Eucharistic celebrations currently take place there regularly on Sundays, holy days of obligation and once a week.
The Evangelical prayer house in Lučatín is a simple modernist building from the first half of the 20th century. The folk culture of Lučatín, including traditional dress, songs and customs, is classified as belonging to the Podkonice type and the Podpoľanie region. The weaving of rag rugs also survived in Lučatín until the 20th century.
Transport
Lučatín has a railway stop on the electrified single-track line no. 170 between Zvolen, Brezno and Margecany. The station is therefore also the starting point for the described hike along the Hronský chodník trail.
The services included, the individual price components, and the payment and cancellation conditions are equally important. Nature, trails and cultural sites therefore remain the benchmarks for planning the trip, while the specific terms and conditions are assessed separately.
