Tekovská Breznica – Find a hotel: castle ruins and Putikov vŕšok
Above Tekovská Breznica stood Breznica Castle in the second half of the 13th century, a relatively large castle built by the Archbishop of Esztergom. Remains of the walls of the castle core are visible at Breznica Castle. The ruins are registered as an immovable national cultural monument in the Central List of the Slovak Monuments Fund under number ÚZPF 1273.
Culture
The oldest monument in Tekovská Breznica is the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. It was built in the 14th century in the Romanesque style on elevated ground above the municipality. In 1912–1913, the church was extended by an addition and extensively reconstructed in 1993. Its construction history therefore combines a medieval origin with two clearly dated later interventions.
Only the perimeter walls of the square tower remain of Watchtower Luchtov. The tower probably served as a defensive and signal tower to warn the population and the castle guards. There is no signposted path to Watchtower Luchtov, making access relatively difficult.
The eastern part of the cadastral area of Tekovská Breznica lies within the protection zone of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Banská Štiavnica and the Technical Monuments in its Vicinity”.
Nature
In the vicinity of Tekovská Breznica, Putikov vŕšok documents the most recent volcanic activity in Slovakia and features a volcanic-exhalative vent. Putikov vŕšok is also a protected natural monument covering an area of 21.06 hectares, designated in 1996.
Sesame Cave is located on Putikov vŕšok. It is a 26-metre-long volcanic vent through which volcanic gases escape during an eruption. Another distinctive landform is Sokolia skala. This is a rock face at an elevation of 415 metres above sea level southeast of Tekovská Breznica, above the ruins of Breznica Castle at Tomanovom rígli.
Hiking
The educational trail to the ruins of Breznica Castle is a less steep alternative to the marked green hiking trail and leads to a viewpoint near the ruins. The green hiking trail to Breznica Castle leads from Tekovská Breznica railway station through the village.
When planning a stay in Tekovská Breznica, travellers can first compare the offers according to their preferred setting, without inferring characteristics of an individual accommodation from the location features mentioned. On the respective offer pages, it is worth checking the exact location, the type of accommodation and the permitted occupancy. Included services, individual price components, and the booking and cancellation conditions should also be reviewed. Comparing the various offers for planned days of culture, nature and hiking makes it possible to assess the differences transparently. The decisive factors are the specific fields stated for each offer, not general expectations about the location or a hotel.
