Príbovce: Culture and Nature in the Turčianska kotlina
Príbovce lies in the centre of the Turčianska kotlina on the alluvial fan of the Blatnický potok stream, below its confluence with the Turiec River. The history of the settlement dates back to the Bronze Age: a Lusatian urnfield bears witness to settlement at the end of the Bronze Age. Príbovce also lay along an old historic road from Ponitrie. The village thus combines a clearly identifiable geographical setting with traces of various periods.
Landscape and Protected Areas
Several protected areas extend into the municipal territory of Príbovce. These include the Turiec National Nature Reserve. The SKUEV 0382 Turiec and Blatnický potok protected area also extends into the municipality. In addition, the Mokrade Turca wetlands, protected under international conventions, are located here. Each of these areas is connected with the Turiec River, the Blatnický potok stream or the wetland landscapes of the Turčianska kotlina.
Churches and History
One of the notable historic buildings is the Roman Catholic Church of sv. Šimona a Júdu. It dates from the 14th century and was built in the Gothic style. In the 17th century, it was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. Its furnishings include a valuable Renaissance bell from 1591. Another historic church in the village is the Protestant church. It was built in 1829 in the Baroque-Classical style and replaced an older wooden church built during the period of religious toleration in 1783.
Near the confluence of the Turiec and Blatnický potok stands a manor house with a round bastion tower, known by the local residents as “kaštieľ”. The building was erected on Renaissance foundations and remodelled at the beginning and towards the end of the 19th century. Throughout its history, it served as a primary school, kindergarten and municipal library, as well as for other educational and social activities. Another historic trace is preserved by the Achimských water mill: it is the only one of the historic mills of Turiec that still stands in Príbovce today.
Cycling Routes and Bus Services
Marked and maintained cycling route No. 5427 passes through Príbovce. The Turčianska bicyklová skupina JUS is responsible for marking and maintaining it; the route is 10 km long. The route also includes Tanková cesta Príbovce. Tanková cesta is suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes and offers views across the entire Turčianska kotlina.
There is a bus stop for both directions in the municipal territory, approximately in the centre of the village, near the municipal office. Príbovce is well served by regional bus services from Martin and by long-distance bus connections. This means that the village has both a specific stop in the central area and regional and long-distance bus connections.
