Culture and history

The Roman Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist is part of Vrútky’s religious history. It was built in 1905 in the Neo-Gothic style and stands on the site of an Early Gothic church. The Evangelical Church of Dr. Martin Luther, built in 1903, is also Neo-Gothic. The Vrútky Synagogue was built in 1910 as a Neolog synagogue and today serves the cultural purposes of the town of Vrútky.

The memorial room dedicated to Hana Zelinová commemorates the Slovak writer who was born in Vrútky. The memorial room contains her authentic furniture and desk, as well as a collection of her works published in various world languages and other valuable exhibits.

Another historical focus is the railway. Vrútky developed into an important railway junction in the second half of the 19th century. The permanent exhibition of the Railway Town of Vrútky presents the town’s historical development from prehistoric times to the 20th century. It can be visited by prior telephone appointment. The grounds of Výhrevňa Vrútky contain historic railway vehicles and historic railway technology.
