Rajecké Teplice: Thermal Water, Nature and Culture

Rajecké Teplice combines thermal water with natural and cultural attractions. The thermal water of the Rajecké Teplice spas has a temperature of 34 to 38 °C and is drawn from underground springs at a depth of approximately 30 m. The Aphrodite balneological centre offers several therapeutic spa treatments. The Laura thermal bath is about a 5- to 10-minute walk from the town centre.

Nature

Rajecké Teplice lies in the southern part of the Rajecká Basin, in the wooded valley of the Rajčianka River, in the surroundings of the Malá Fatra and Strážov Mountains. This geographical setting is complemented by trails and smaller natural attractions. The Slnečné skaly educational trail from Rajecké Teplice to Porúbka leads through the Rajecká dolina, past the Poluvsianska skalná ihla rock formation and onwards to the Slnečné skaly nature reserve.

Labutie jazierko is a small artificial pond created by damming or diverting the Kuneradský potok stream. Boats can be rented there from spring to autumn, and swans and ducks can be seen almost constantly. In winter, Labutie jazierko is used as an ice-skating area.

Culture

The Žilina–Rajec railway line, built in 1898 and 1899, is part of the local transport history. Rajecké Teplice railway station was established in 1899 in the immediate vicinity of the spa area. The Múzeum dopravy is housed in the station building. It presents the development of transport from the earliest times to the present day. The railway section includes an H0 model railway, historic railway offices and a historic rail trolley used for maintaining the line.

Kostolík Nanebovzatia Panny Márie was built in 1909 in a Neo-Gothic style influenced by Alpine architecture. This church houses a wooden-carved Stations of the Cross by woodcarver Jozef Pekara from Rajecké Teplice. Kostol Božského Srdca Ježišovho was built in 2000 and 2001 and consecrated on 24 November 2001 by Ján Ch. Cardinal Korec, Bishop of Nitra.

The Flámm brewery building is an architecturally distinctive landmark of Rajecké Teplice; its construction was completed in 1910. The historic sightseeing tour of Rajecké Teplice takes visitors to the spa town's most significant historic sites and attractions.

Activities

Rajecké Teplice offers several cycling circuits. Rajeckou dolinou na dvoch kolesách (RDn2K) is a mostly asphalted cycling circuit for cyclists and families with children. The Rajecké Teplice pump track is suitable for children and adults, as well as for beginners and experienced riders.

An educational trail begins at a car park in Rajecké Teplice, directly next to the Laura outdoor swimming pool, and is 5.6 km long.
