Pavlova Ves: Hotels, History and MTB Circular Tour

Pavlova Ves was established in 1400 and is located in the Liptov Basin near the Western Tatras. The local history, ecclesiastical art, rural way of life, cuisine, nature and cycling are each reflected in specific connections to the village.

History

Pavlova Ves was already part of the estate of Liptov Castle before 1469. Around 1600, the village had about ten houses, a mill and a manorial farm. Its historical development is thus connected both with an early manorial affiliation and with a specifically described settlement pattern.

Culture

The original church in Pavlova Ves, known as „Kaplnka“, was built in 1932 under parish priest Serafín Rončák. In this church, Mikuláš Štalmach painted the ceiling images of the twelve Apostles and the altarpiece depicting Saints Peter and Paul. The church in Pavlova Ves was consecrated on 8 November 1997 by Mons. Andrej Imrich, Auxiliary Bishop of Spiš.

Landscape

The cadastral area of Pavlova Ves lies within the Tatry Transboundary Biosphere Reserve. Pavlova Ves also borders Aquapark Tatralandia. Thus, both the protected-area connection of the cadastral area and the direct border with the aforementioned water park form part of the village’s geographical profile.

Rural Heritage

The historical rural way of life in Pavlova Ves included grazing cattle and horses high in the mountains during summer, including near the wooden troughs in Žleby behind Babky. The place names Žleby and Babky thus preserve the specific connection to this part of the former grazing economy.
