Liptovské Kľačany: Mountain Trails, Nízke Tatry and Hotels

Nature and Landscape

The Nízke Tatry Natura 2000 site includes the cadastral territory of Liptovské Kľačany. The protected area is characterized by predominantly coniferous forest habitats complemented by meadows and pastures. Most of Liptovské Kľačany lies below the summit of Chabenec in the protected area of the Low Tatras National Park. Among other species, the Nízke Tatry protected area protects forest birds such as the golden eagle, black grouse, capercaillie, three-toed woodpecker, boreal owl, Eurasian pygmy owl and hazel grouse. The forests around Liptovské Kľačany offer numerous easy walks.

Hiking and Cycling

Several marked routes provide access to the surrounding area. A hiking trail leads from the Kľačianska Valley to Magurka. A marked trail leads from Tajch via Magurka to the Latiborská hoľa saddle. Another marked route leads from the Železnô settlement via Magurka and the 1,520-metre-high Mestská hora to the main ridge below Malý Chabenec. Visitors can hike through the Kľačianska Valley. An ascent via Brestovec leads to Ľupčianska Magura at an elevation of 1,315 metres.

The routes differ significantly in the landscape features mentioned: the Kľačianska Valley is the starting point of a trail to Magurka and is also described as a hiking area in its own right. Other marked trails continue via Magurka to a saddle or to the main ridge below Malý Chabenec. The cycling tourism route N2401 – Vlkolínec – Pribylina complements these hiking connections with a route running through Liptovské Kľačany.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Elisabeth was built from 1878 to 1889 in the Historicist style. The present church stands on the site of a Gothic church dating from 1339. The church contains two Baroque paintings from the mid-18th century and a late Baroque tabernacle with cherubim. The Church of Saint Elisabeth became a significant factor shaping the settlement.

Recent history is also visible in the Kľačianska Valley: visible remains of partisan bunkers can still be found there. A time of 10:30 is also listed for the Church of Saint Elisabeth of Hungary.
