Oravské Veselé – Hotels, Pilsko and Local Culture

A green-marked hiking trail leads from Oravské Veselé to Pilsko. It is the shortest route in terms of travel time and takes approximately 2.5 hours.

Nature

Pilsko is the second-highest mountain in the Western Beskids. The mountain has a tourist border crossing for pedestrians, cyclists and skiers. Its slopes are protected as a nature reserve. From the summit of Pilsko, there are views of Veľký Choč and Malá Fatra. Thus, a special position within the Western Beskids, a cross-border crossing and a protected landscape come together on a single mountain.

Trails and Connections

In addition to the green-marked ascent, there is a connection for cyclists: cycle route 5491 connects Námestovo with Oravské Veselé and provides a connection to Poland. The route has its own number and links the village with Námestovo and the neighbouring country.

Culture

Amateur theatre has been performed in Oravské Veselé since 1922. Another cultural institution is the Pilsko children's folklore ensemble, founded in 1972. Its task is to revive, seek out and record the songs, customs, games and dances of older residents of the municipality. Through songs, games and rhymes, the ensemble also preserves the Gorals' dialect.

Veselovská nedeľa is part of the local events calendar. This is a traditional cultural event in Oravské Veselé, taking place on 9 August 2026. The date connects the event's name with a specific date and location.

History

The first wooden church in Oravské Veselé was completed in 1656 and dedicated to Saint Elizabeth. The new masonry church was completed in 1815; its construction took ten years. Three altars from the wooden church were transferred to the new masonry church.

The furnishings beside the church include the Baroque sculpture of Saint Mary Magdalene. It is listed under ÚZPF number 2660.
