Liptovská Osada between two national parks: nature, culture and hotels

Liptovská Osada lies in a valley between two national parks, including Veľká Fatra National Park, and is also a starting point for several hikes. The village therefore combines a landscape setting with several specific trails and excursion destinations that differ significantly in character.

Nature and trails

The Žiar viewpoint trail leads from the center of Liptovská Osada to the lower part of the rocky massif of Mount Žiar. The viewpoints on Žiar offer views of Liptovská Osada. A green-marked hiking trail also leads from the village to Mount Malý Zvolen. Each of the trails and viewpoints mentioned has a clear connection to the village: one trail begins in the center, the other leads from Liptovská Osada to a mountain, while the viewpoints open up views back towards the village.

Water and relaxation

Gothals Water World includes a relaxation pool, a children's pool and a 25-metre swimming pool. The Gothal wellness area has three saunas, a relaxation room and a cold-water pool. Thus, within the same complex, both various pools and a separate wellness area with several facilities are specified.

Culture and local history

The “Church of St John the Baptist” was built in 1762 on the site of an earlier wooden church. The church contains paintings by Vladimír Droppa. Three bells hang in the tower; the oldest dates from the 17th century and is dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity. The historical heritage of Liptovská Osada also includes a former Hussite church, which was originally the only Hussite church in Slovakia.

Liptovská Osada developed from a Benedictine hermitage that was established around the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries and is mentioned as Gothal or “božie domčeky”. A monument dedicated to the Slovak National Uprising also stands in a small park on Lúžňanská Street.

Cycling

CykloKorytnička is a cycle path on the route of a former narrow-gauge forest railway. It crosses an old railway bridge on its way to Liptovská Osada. The current form of the path and the former function of the route remain recognisable as two distinct elements of this place.
