Ivachnová: Nature, Culture and Hotels on the Váh

Ivachnová lies on the Váh River and combines a protected natural area with sacred buildings, local festivals and regional products. A bridge connects the village with Liptovská Teplá on the opposite bank. Nature

Ivachnovský luh covers 12 hectares. It is the northernmost floodplain forest in Slovakia and at the same time the last remnant of an alluvial forest in the elevated basins of the Western Carpathians. Up to 90 bird species and 162 species of higher plants occur in this natural area; 30 mammal species also live there. Ivachnovský luh is subject to the fifth level of protection, and access is prohibited.

The marked route network is also clearly limited: no marked cycle path passes through Ivachnová, and no marked hiking trail begins there. The natural area is therefore not described as a freely accessible network of paths, but through its distinctive landscape and the applicable access regulations.

Culture

The Roman Catholic church in Ivachnová is dedicated to Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius. Its solemn consecration took place on 13 November 1993. The church also contains a relic preserving a drop of blood from Pope John Paul II.

Another sacred architectural monument is the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk. The Neoclassical wayside chapel dates from 1858, replaced a wooden structure from 1828 and was restored in 1926. It stands in the northern part of Ivachnová, beside a road on the bank of the Váh.

Festivals

The Cyrilometodské hody festival was held in Ivachnová for the 25th time in 2025. The programme included a performance by the Los Bombarderos group and dancing with a DJ. There were also refreshments, a raffle and competitions for men, women and children. Younger visitors could enjoy a children's corner, a bouncy castle and face painting.

Pálenie Jánskej vatry also continues to be maintained as a tradition in Ivachnová. The 2025 event offered visitors refreshments, a fire area for children and entertainment.

Local Flavours

The Kozí vŕšok complex, with a restaurant and a shop, lies on the eastern edge of Ivachnová. Local dairy products are sold there, including cheese made from goat's, sheep's and cow's milk, as well as yoghurts. Thus, alongside the natural and cultural sites, a specific place for regional products is also mentioned.
