In Kalameny, nature, local history and regional excursion destinations come together. Warm water, an educational trail through meadows and forest, and the remains of a medieval castle reveal different sides of the village in a factual way and without unnecessary detours.

Nature

The thermal spring of Kalameny is located in the Kalamenská Valley in the Chočské vrchy, about 1 km north of Kalameny. It is an artificial borehole drilled in 1991–1992 and produces water at around 33°C. The pond at the thermal spring is used for public bathing all year round.

The surrounding area is also characterised by mountains. Plieška, Turanská Magura, Havrania and Magura are mountains in the vicinity of Kalameny. The ruins of Likava and the Bešeňová Thermal Park are also located in this area. Orava Castle lies in the wider regional surroundings of Kalameny.

Educational Trail

The Kalameny–Liptovský hrad educational trail leads from the centre of Kalameny first to the thermal spring with its bathing pond. It then continues across meadows and through the forest to the ruins of Liptovský hrad. The trail provides information about the history of Kalameny and Liptovský hrad, as well as local geology, the water cycle and the forest.

The “Kalameny,,kult.dom” bus stop is located directly at the beginning of the trail. At the start of the trail in the centre of Kalameny, there is also a paid car park by the church.

History and Culture

Liptovský hrad was built in the Middle Ages on 993-metre-high Sestrč. The castle was constructed in 1262 during the reign of King Béla IV and demolished in 1474 on the orders of King Matthias Corvinus. The area of Liptovský hrad is a national cultural monument; the uncovered original foundations of the castle are freely accessible to the public today.

Liptovský hrad offers views of the Western Tatras, the Liptov Basin, the Low Tatras, part of the Great Fatra and the distinctive Veľký Choč. In the village itself, the Roman Catholic church in Kalameny features interior wall paintings.

Check Hotel Offers

When comparing a hotel in Kalameny, first check the exact location and type of accommodation on the respective offer page. The stated occupancy, included services, individual price components, and booking and cancellation conditions are equally important. This information may differ from one offer to another; the specific details on each page remain decisive. Reviewing these points places the costs and terms side by side before completion, without anticipating services, prices or availability. This makes it possible to select the desired offer based on transparent criteria. When comparing multiple listings, it is also worth checking the same occupancy and travel period so that different price components and conditions are not inadvertently interpreted as equivalent and the comparison remains verifiable on the respective offer pages.
