Lisková: Natural Monuments, Trails and Hotels

Liskovská Cave represents both nature and early settlement history in Lisková: the cave is where the first documented settlement of the Lengyel culture in the Liptov region was discovered. Today, Liskovská Cave is a national natural monument; only the entrance is accessible to visitors. Above the cave stands the Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of Mary, offering views of the Low and Western Tatras.

Nature

One of Lisková’s notable natural sites is Skalná päsť, a six-metre-high natural monument below Mount Mních. The Mohylky Nature Reserve contains fossils of marine molluscs, nummulites and corals. These fossils are approximately 50 million years old. Alongside the cave and the mountains, these geological traces are therefore independent features of the local natural environment.

Trails

A yellow-marked hiking trail begins in Lisková and leads to the trail junction below Smrekov. From this junction, marked trails continue to the Sedlo Spuštiak saddle in the Choč National Nature Reserve and then towards Veľký Choč. A red-marked cycling trail also runs through Lisková: westwards it leads to Ružomberok, and eastwards to Liptovská Teplá.

The Lisková climbing sector is also one of the explicitly named activities in the area. It has around 23 routes of varying difficulty. Rock climbing at the Lisková climbing sector has been officially permitted since 1 December 2023.

Culture

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord stands in Lisková’s streetscape and was consecrated in 1936. Its free-standing Baroque tower comes from an older church. This older church was demolished in 1934 because of its poor structural condition. The history of the building therefore remains legible through a single preserved component as well.

The birthplace of Vavro Šrobár is located in the centre of Lisková on Vavra Šrobára Street, next to the main road. A commemorative plaque was placed at the birthplace in 1937 on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Another religious route leads along the Way of the Cross in Lisková. It consists of 14 stations and ends at a small church dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Mary; a small chapel stands at the beginning.
