Kluknava can be explored through specific cultural and landscape sites. Museums, technical monuments, religious buildings and trails lead to different chapters of the town and its immediate surroundings.
Culture
The Shoe Museum exhibition is located in the listed Dom sluĹľobnĂctva s hospodárstvom near the centre of Kluknava. The museum presents shoes used from prehistoric times to the present day. The Shoe Museum also includes the Kluknavská chyĹľa, with a shoemaker’s room and workshop, historic tools, shoes and figures in traditional historical dress.
A technical monument is the covered wooden bridge over the Hornád River. It connects Kluknava with the settlement of Štefánska Huta and was built in 1832. In Štefánska Huta, the ruins are those of Europe’s first factory for the electrolytic production of copper, built between 1845 and 1848. Kluknava is also home to a water mill with a Francis turbine dating from 1910.
The Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria in Kluknava was built in 1555 as an originally Protestant Renaissance church. It was extensively restored in 2012–2013, when its interior was modernised with new mosaics. The church continues to be used for religious purposes. The Baroque manor house in Kluknava is of Renaissance origin and dates from 1715–1720; it belonged to the kluknavsko-iliašovská line of the Csáky family. In the nearby forests of Kluknava stands the Chapel of Saint Anne, which remains a pilgrimage site. Believers come there every year on the last Sunday in July.
Nature
At 1,028.5 metres above sea level, Roháčka is the highest peak of the Čierna hora mountain range. Above Kluknava lies the Green Point lookout tower, about a 1.5-hour walk from the town. This means that, alongside the historic sites, the area around the town also offers a prominent peak and an elevated viewpoint.
Trails
The “Osobnosti a história Kluknavy” educational trail is a circular route approximately 7.5 kilometres long, running predominantly through a natural environment. The trail’s information boards also contain English texts. Green Point could be climbed year-round, including during the evening and night hours. Until October 2023, a 35-metre-high lookout tower called Green Point was planned for Kluknava.
