Nálepkovo: Long-Distance Cycle Route, Hnilec Valley and Historic Churches

Nálepkovo offers three different perspectives: the course of a long-distance cycle route, a comparatively narrow river valley and historic churches. The 69.3-kilometre Hnilecká Long-Distance Cycle Route passes through Nálepkovo on its route between Dedinky and Margecany. The Hnilec Valley near Nálepkovo is comparatively narrow; there, the mountain slopes often reach right down to the riverbanks.

Cycling

Along this route, the long-distance cycle route follows Class II and III roads, local roads and, briefly, a forest road. The route length and road types provide different points of reference for planning: the route can be considered both in terms of its total extent and its individual sections. The combination of a clearly stated length and changing road types makes it possible to assess the overall scale and the character of the route separately.

Holý Vrch and Hlinisko, both mountains, are located in the vicinity of Nálepkovo. The separate spatial references can be deliberately distinguished when planning. The river valley, mountain slopes and named mountains thus describe the landscape at different scales, without every natural feature indicating the same proximity to the village.

Culture

The two churches in Nálepkovo already differ in their architectural form. The Roman Catholic Church of St. Stephen is a single-nave classical building with a segmentally ended presbytery and a projecting tower structure dating from 1770 to 1781. The Evangelical church in Nálepkovo is a single-nave late Baroque building with a segmentally ended presbytery, without a tower, dating from 1785.

The furnishings also contain specific historical details. The Church of St. Stephen has a late Baroque high altar dating from the period when the church was built, as well as a pulpit and an organ from the late 18th century. The Evangelical church has a masonry classical altar from the early 19th century. Its Empire-style pews date from the same period as the classical altar, namely the early 19th century. The building and interior furnishings can therefore be considered as separate levels of analysis.

A monument dating from 1929 stands in the central square of Nálepkovo. In the wider regional area around Nálepkovo are Spiš Castle, a castle, the ruins of Kláštorisko, Spišská Kapitula, a monastery, and Sans-souci, a church. This spatial distribution keeps local points of interest and regional cultural destinations distinguishable from one another.
