Culture and History

The Sennyey family manor house was completed in 1781 in the Baroque style and was later transformed into its present Rococo-Classicist form. Between 2007 and 2013, it was partially restored as part of the Hungary–Slovakia cross-border cooperation programme.

The renovated central section of the Sennyey family manor house contains a museum that currently presents an exhibition about the Sennyey family. The single-storey, U-shaped building with three wings also has a hall used for various cultural and social events.

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is a Neo-Gothic building erected in 1854. It originally served as a garden pavilion near the manor house.

Park and Leisure

The Sennyey family manor house is surrounded by a 3.5-hectare historic park. The park includes century-old ash trees, plane trees and other rare species.

There are two fishing ponds near the Sennyey family manor house that can be used all year round. They are stocked with African catfish, carp and trout; day fishing permits can be purchased on site.

Locals use state and field roads in Biel for cycling. In addition to the historic sites, this provides a form of transport used by local residents in their everyday lives.

Blueberries and Local Produce

The “Zemplín Blueberries” blueberry farm was established in 2012. The berries are grown on the farm using environmentally friendly methods. Visitors can taste freshly picked blueberries directly in the orchard of “Zemplín Blueberries”. Blueberry jam is also available.
