Culture

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built in Sečovce in 1494 in the Gothic style. Its tower is 56 metres high.

The roadside Pietà statue is a stone folk Baroque statue from the 18th century and is registered as a cultural monument. After its restoration in 1999, a copy of the roadside Pietà statue was placed in front of the entrance to the Roman Catholic church.

The Old Jewish Cemetery is the only surviving testimony to Sečovce’s once sizeable Jewish community. The newly opened Sečovce City Museum presents the history of the city. The two sites represent different forms of historical remembrance and interpretation.

History in the Urban Space

The Náučný chodník – Stratení susedia nature trail leads through the streets of Sečovce to surviving objects and to sites where historic buildings once stood before later being demolished. Along the same route, surviving and no-longer-existing buildings thus appear side by side.

The extensive cellars of Fischerov kaštieľ, the only surviving testimony to the old manor house, can still be accessed from the cultural centre and the department store. The historical connection to the old manor house is thus linked to the fact that the cellars can still be accessed today.

Sečovce City Park was established in 1885 and redesigned in its present form in 2025. Information boards there provide details about the history of the city and its historic monuments. The city park therefore brings together its year of establishment, its redesign and historical information.

With immediate effect, a strict ban applies on driving or parking cars along the shores on the Zbehnov side of the VN Sečovce reservoir. Vehicles must be parked on the upper access road. The rule therefore specifies both the affected side of the reservoir and the place where vehicles must be parked.
