Rejdová: Folk Culture, Experience Trails and Stolica

Rejdová combines natural and cultural themes in a clearly defined village setting. Stolica is located in the municipality and, at 1,477 metres, is the highest peak of the Slovak Ore Mountains. The national cultural monument “Evanjelický kostol Sv. Michala Archanjela” dates from the 17th century. Cultural monuments, handicrafts, trails and winter sports can be considered as separate themes for different planning priorities.

Culture and Handicrafts

The church’s altar ensemble includes the painting “The Last Supper”; the ensemble was created around 1750 in a local sculpture and woodcarving workshop in the Gemer region. The Múzeum tradičnej ľudovej kultúry is located in a traditional wooden folk dwelling on the village square. Folk handicrafts still practised in Rejdová include carpet weaving, bobbin lace-making, shingle production and sewing fur clothing.

The Hôra folklore group was founded in 1953 and, at various events, is dedicated to presenting and preserving traditional folk handicrafts. The “Gemerský folklorný festival” in Rejdová traditionally takes place in the second half of August. One festival programme included open courtyards, demonstrations of folk handicrafts and presentations of craftspeople’s work. As part of this programme, the participating municipalities served traditional dishes; local hunters also served traditional hunter’s goulash. For planning purposes, you can distinguish between church art, the museum site, the handicrafts practised locally and a festival date. Trails and Landscape

The experience trail begins at the car park behind the local amphitheatre. The signposted route offers a blue and a red route variant, is 3 km long and is accessible to pedestrians and cycling tourists. It also includes an oversized swing overlooking the village. The Náučný chodník has seven information boards in the built-up area and in the municipality’s surroundings. It is approximately 3.5 km long and can be completed in about 1.5 hours.

Winter Sports

The Rejdová ski area offers three ski lifts for beginners and advanced skiers. It is located in the Vŕšok part of the village, about a ten-minute walk from the village square; parking is available directly at the ski lift.
