Ondrejovce lies east of the foothills of the Pohronská pahorkatina upland, in a broad valley of the Hron. The Ondrejovský stream flows through the town. The landscape, religious buildings, historical heritage and marked cycling routes come together to create a diverse picture of this place.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle in Ondrejovce is a Gothic church dating from the 14th century. It was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1753, reconstructed in its present form in 1810 and declared a national cultural monument in 2016.

A permanent historical exhibition is entitled “The Past and Present of the Municipality of Ondrejovce”. It opened on 3 July 2016 in a multipurpose building in the park next to the cultural centre. The exhibition presents manor houses and curiae that no longer exist, as well as the economic and administrative activities of the families who lived in Ondrejovce. János Luky can be contacted to arrange a visit.

Skalka is an artificially created ruin commissioned by Viktor Benkovich in the 1930s. The entrance gate to Skala bears his family coat of arms. Skala is a stone medieval castle that has already partially fallen into disrepair, or rather a miniature version of one, with stone walls and historical windows.

The chapel in Ondrejovce is also part of the protected historical heritage: it has been classified as a national cultural monument since 2015. The chapel grounds on the western outskirts of Ondrejovce, on the main road to Dolný Pial, are freely accessible. In Držlany, a Marian column was erected in 1831 in gratitude for the end of the plague.

Landscape and Cycling Routes

The location in the broad Hron Valley and east of the foothills of the Pohronská pahorkatina upland forms the geographical setting of Ondrejovce. The Ondrejovský stream flowing through the town adds a visible body of water within the built-up area to this landscape.

Several designated cycling connections pass through Ondrejovce. The blue MERIDIEM cycling route runs through the town and is suitable for mountain bikers. Cycling route 8103 Levice–Bardoňovo also passes through Ondrejovce. This route is classified as an easy leisure route for mountain bikes.
