In Rastislavice, churches, customs, landscapes and historical memories stand side by side. The local features range from sacred architecture and inherited traditions to protected areas, birdwatching observations and traces of earlier regional production.

Culture

The Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception in Rastislavice is a single-nave functionalist building dating from 1939 to 1941. It was created by converting an older granary. The Evangelical church in Rastislavice was designed by the Prague architect Václav Ložek.

The Municipal Museum of Rastislavice was established in 2002 as a “Room of Traditions”. It presents the history of the municipality, folk customs and the culture of its inhabitants. The museum is currently temporarily closed while new premises for its operation are being sought. The local folklore group Rastislavická Konopa presents the folk traditions of Rastislavice. Stavanie Mája is a spring-related custom in Rastislavice.

A monument to the soldiers of the Red Army stands in front of the Rastislavice Municipal Office. Nové Rastislavice is also home to a renovated old swing well, the “vahadlová studňa”. Its original age is estimated at approximately 100 years.

Nature

The boundary of the protected Dolné Považie Bird Protection Area (SKCHUV005) runs through Rastislavice. At the western edge of the built-up area of Nové Rastislavice, the boundary of this protected area continues. Observations of Syrian woodpeckers (Dendrocopos syriacus) were recorded in Nové Rastislavice within the Dolné Považie Bird Protection Area between 2011 and 2013. Old, open black locust avenues along field paths near Nové Rastislavice are considered a preferred habitat of the Syrian woodpecker (Dendrocopos syriacus).

The Šurianské slaniská Site of Community Importance lies in the wider area of Rastislavice. Thus, both a designated bird protection area and a Site of Community Importance are located around the municipality, while the information about the Syrian woodpecker establishes a specific connection to Nové Rastislavice.

Transport

Rastislavice currently has no rail transport infrastructure. Suburban bus routes connect Rastislavice with the surrounding villages and towns. The Nové Rastislavice stop is one of seven bus stops in the municipality of Rastislavice.

From Rastislavice, a blue-marked cycling route measuring 11.7 kilometres can be reached in the neighbouring municipality of Poľný Kesov. The route is therefore documented as a clearly marked connection to a neighbouring municipality.

History

Historically, dairy products of excellent quality were produced at the Degešské majere. Cheese and butter from the Degešské majere were sold as far as Budapest.
