Čechy: Nature, Ski Lift and Hotels

Čechy is situated in the hills of the Pohronská pahorkatina at an average elevation of 240 metres. The hilly surroundings and the pond’s water surface nestled into the landscape create a picturesque view of the village and provide a beautiful natural setting for visitors in every season.

Nature

Almost the entire municipality of Čechy is surrounded by deciduous forests. The natural area includes the Krivé hrabiny Natura 2000 site (SKUEV0086), which covers 125.74 ha and includes plot 793 in the cadastral area of Čechy; protection level 2 applies there. Krivé hrabiny was proposed for the protection of the habitat types “Carpathian and Pannonian oak-hornbeam forests” (91G0), “Pannonian-Balkan turkey oak forests” (91M0), and “Euro-Siberian oak forests on loess and sand” (91I0).

History

The first written mention of Čechy dates from 1419. Between 1416 and 1419, several Hussite families settled in Čechy as part of the settlement’s strong growth. A historical landmark in the village is the “Kostol sv. Petra a Pavla” church. It was originally a Baroque church dating from 1735 and was rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century.

Experiences

A cycling route runs through Čechy and an attractive natural landscape. This cycling route can also be used for walks and hikes. During the fishing season, the pond in Čechy is open to anglers and is stocked with carp.

Winter

There is a snowmaking system at the ski slope in Čechy. The municipality of Čechy has a 200 m long ski lift, which operates in suitable snow conditions. When the ski lift is operating, evening skiing is also possible from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. During the winter months, when it is frozen, the pond opposite the ski slope can be used for ice skating and playing hockey. In the surroundings of Čechy, there are areas suitable for cross-country skiing when snow conditions are suitable.

Čechy is located 22 km from Nové Zámky. The village can be reached via Road 75, with a turn-off at Semerovo, or via Road 580 from Šurany through Podhájska.
