Gerlachovský štít is the highest peak in the Tatras, Slovakia and the Carpathians. The Tatranská magistrála is a 46.25-kilometre-long, red-marked hiking trail that crosses the southern slope of the High Tatras. Sedielko is the highest mountain pass at an elevation of 2,376 metres.

Nature and Conservation
The Tatra National Park (TANAP) was established in 1949. The High Tatras National Park was the first national park of its kind established in Slovakia. Since 1993, the Slovak and Polish parts of the High Tatras have formed a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The Tatra chamois is a symbol of the Tatras and has evolved in isolation since the Ice Age.
The botanical garden on Lomnický štít showcases plant species that grow only in this region. Nearby are Východná Vysoká, Divá veža, Velický štít and Bradavica, each a mountain.
Hiking and Walks
The walk from Hrebienok to the best-known and accessible waterfalls takes 30 minutes and is also suitable for older people or children.
Lakes, Cable Cars and Towers
Skalnaté pleso lies at 1,751 metres above sea level in the Skalnatá Valley beneath the southern slopes of Lomnický štít. From Tatranská Lomnica, it can be reached by cable car or on foot from Hrebienok or Chata pri Zelenom plese. Eighteen stylish wooden rowing boats and one sports rowing boat are available at the jetty on Štrbské pleso.
The aerial cableway to Lomnický štít overcomes an elevation difference of 855 metres in 8.5 minutes. The Tatras Tower is a 53-metre-high, barrier-free-accessible tower; its entrance is located at 1,367 metres above sea level.
Culture and History
The TANAP Museum in Tatranská Lomnica presents the nature and history of the Tatras, as well as the former life and culture of the population at the foot of the Tatras. There, it depicts typical Tatra animals in dioramas and presents ethnographic exhibitions on the material and spiritual culture of the communities at the foot of the Tatras and in the Tatras.
The Neo-Gothic Church of the Immaculate Conception in Starý Smokovec was built in 1888 in the Alpine style, with characteristic half-timbering. Votrubova Chata, a historic site, is located nearby. In the wider regional area is the Wooden Articular Church in Kežmarok, a church.
Places and Surroundings
Starý Smokovec is a transport hub with a branch of the Tatra Electric Railway and a cable car to Hrebienok. The Tatrzański Park Narodowy, a park, is located nearby.
